PRESS RELEASE October 29, 2012 Halloween Costumes & Calvary  We all love to see children in Halloween costumes, but because of what Halloween stands for, we are not able to allow children to wear costumes during the school day.   Calvary sponsored a booth at the Halloween Extravaganza again this year, and we encouraged all families to attend in kid-friendly costumes and take advantage of this community event.  Next year, Calvary will sponsor its own Fall Festival and families will be encouraged to come in costume, play games and hand out candy. Oct. 27th   The SLZ Homeowner's Association is sponsoring a Halloween Parade and Extravaganza, tomorrow Sat. Oct 27th.      Meet at the SLZ Community Church (945 Paseo Grande) @ 9:30am.  The parade will begin @ 10am, and costumed children will march to the Library Parking Lot.   Festival and games will begin @ 10:30am.    Calvary will have a booth with a bean bag toss game with candy & prizes!  Come on out in your kid-friendly costume and have fun spreading the word about our awesome school!      Box Top Winner    for the 1st Quarter  The class with the most box tops for the 1st Quarter is 1st & 2nd Grade with 518 box tops!  Great Job!  They will receive a Free Dress Coupon to be used on Friday, Nov 2nd. The other classes placed as follows: 2nd Place - 3rd & 4th Grade with 322 box tops. 3rd Place - 7th & 8th Grade with 300 box tops. 4th Place - 5th & 6th Grade with 200 box tops. 5th Place - Kindergarten with 142 box tops. Thank you all for turning in your box tops and making a our school a "winner."  We will receive a check for $241 in December and the funds will go toward our School Picnic at the end of the year.   Secret Sisters - New Group Starting    It's not too late if you would like to be a part of this fun group for ladies 18 years & up.      You can pick up a card in the office and fill it out, and you will given the name of a "sister" and a sister will be given your name.      Your sister will pray for you and send you cards or small gifts, and you can pray for and uplift your sister.       In Spring, the Secret Sisters will meet for a Meal & Reveal!   Walk for Cans & 2nd Qtr Chapel Offering - Making a Difference in our Community Money from Chapel Offering from Oct. 22nd through Nov. 17th, along with canned goods from Walk for Cans will be given to our local food bank. Walk for Cans Info 2012     Labels for Ed Winners The class that turned in the most Labels for Education is the 5th & 6th Grade with 500 points!  They will receive a home-baked treat!  Way to go!      2nd Place - 1st & 2nd Grade with 344 points.   3rd Place - 3rd & 4th Grade with 220 points.   4th Place - 7th & 8th Grade with 10 points.   Thank you to everyone for collecting those labels!  These points will be used to buy school supplies from Labels for Education.  Great American   Fall Fundraiser Winners Congratulations to the following students for selling the most items in our Fall Fundraiser: Anaiya Garcia - Preschool Ethan Mendoza - 3rd Grade Ashleigh Stanton - 5th Grade Great Job!  Fall Fundraiser orders will be delivered to the school on Wed. Nov. 14th.  Fresh & Easy  Receipts Don't forget to keep any Fresh & Easy receipt totaling $20 or more.  For every receipt with at least $20, we receive a $1.  If you spend $100, we receive $5.  It's an easy way to get your groceries, and help our school.  We will be collecting receipts until Dec. 31st! Turn in your receipts to your child's teacher or put them in the collection box in the school office.   Fresh & Easy Shopping Night Wed. November 15th will be Calvary's own special Shopping Night from 4pm - 8pm. Sign up in the office to help collect receipts from shoppers and bring your student in his/her uniform to help collect receipts and bag groceries. Tell your friends and family to come in and buy their Thanksgiving groceries during our special night, and we get 20% back!

There are booths, games, prizes, and costume parades for the kids.   Calvary will have a booth there again this year, and we are inviting you to help in sharing CLS with our community. The parade event begins at 9:30 am and the booths open at 10:30 am.     Come lend a hand in sharing Calvary Lutheran School in a fun and exciting costumed environment. Come in your favorite kid-friendly Halloween costume and help us hand out prizes; including candy, pencils, etc. Contact your classroom teacher and sign up for an hour or two. The time blocks are 9:30-10:30, 10:30-11:30, 11:30-12:30, or 12:30-1:30.

Parents, please don't mix the two labels.    ______________________________________________________________________ Walk for Cans   Saturday, October 27, 2012 is the national Make a Difference Day.     A day devoted to helping others by doing volunteer work.   Calvary Lutheran School will be participating in its own Make a Difference Day on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.   Calvary Lutheran School students will be walking for food donations to be made to a local food pantry. Each class will be walking or running for a thirty minute period around a 1/5 mile course set up on the school grounds. It takes an adult about three minutes to walk the course. Each child is to get sponsors who will donate non- perishable food items or money they have pledged per lap .   Between now and October 30 please help your child get sponsors. Then October 31 - November 13 bring your collected donations to your child's classroom. Although the Pre-School is not walking they will be collecting donations in their classroom.   The class with the most donations will receive FREE DRESS.   Several parents will be needed to help with the walk, earn PPP hours.
