Target giving back to our schools

$$$$$$$
Cougar Logo
This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Calvary Lutheran School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. And please forward this email to your friends. Vote and see rules at GiveWith.Target.com.

School Beautification
Saturday, Aug. 9am - noon

Dear Doug,

It's that time of year to spruce up the school and all we need are happy hearts and helping hands.  Come down to Calvary at 9am with some cleaning supplies and you can lend a hand wherever you would like.  Many parents like to help in their child's classroom.

We'll have some donuts and coffee, so bring your family and friends--the more, the merrier!  Start working off those PPP hours early and have some fun and fellowship while you're doing it.

Here are some ideas of cleaning items to bring:

Clorox Wipes, paper towels, rags, dusters, paint brushes, Windex (or other surface cleaners), broom (to sweep or knock down cobwebs), wood cleaner/polish, dry erase board cleaner/conditioner, or anything else you think we could use.  Call the school office with any questions: 510-278-2598.

Let's get ready for the First Day of School!

Voters' Budget Meeting - Sunday, Aug. 11th

Giving Thanks for our New Kindergarten Teacher

We welcome Katie Mellon to the Calvary Family!

Originally from Connecticut, Katie moved to the West Coast to take a break from the long cold winters with feet of snow. After graduating in 2010 from Keene State College in New Hampshire with a degree in Elementary Education and a degree in Music for Elementary teachers, she moved to Boston and worked for three years as an assistant in a 1st and 2nd grade classroom. During her time in Boston, Katie earned her Masters of Education in May 2013 from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing  in integrating the arts.

Katie enjoys reading, knitting and running. Traveling is a new interest of hers and she hopes to see more and more of the country as her family and friends begin to spread from the East Coast.  She is looking forward to exploring the Bay Area and hopes to adopt a dog soon. She is thrilled and excited about starting her lead teaching career at Calvary!

GraceWorks Will Work!

Calvary has enlisted the help of GraceWorks in its effort to go above and beyond just plain marketing. This company has served over 500 Christian schools, including Redwood Christian, with their marketing and fundraising efforts and has been recognized as a national leader in Christian school marketing.

They will guide Calvary along the path to becoming a healthier, more robust school with their vision and faith-based planning that will result in a 20% increase in enrollment.

A Polling Place to Call Home

We are happy to announce that Calvary is officially a polling location for our community. Not only will this give our neighbors the convenience of voting close to home, but we can use this opportunity to offer them some refreshments and maybe a church postcard or school brochure.    ;)
Preschool Expansion

The Lord has blessed us mightily this year, and preschool is busting at the seams. The seams, or in this case, the wall needs to go! The Preschool Expansion has been an idea that has been in the works for a couple years, and this year it will finally start. Whether the preschool class is linked the Kindergarten class or the youth room, ideas are in the works.

Watch for more details to come!
