May 27, 2016 Dear CLS Families and Friends, Soon we will be closing out another school year at Calvary Lutheran School. This year marks the sixty-sixth year the school has positively impacted its students and surrounding community members. The following is a brief update on the progress of CLS as it prepares for the 2016-17 year: Continuation of our five-year plan. Our primary objective has been to move our combined classrooms to single classroom settings. At present, we have separated grades first and second, while separating grade five for 2016-17 as well as moving it back to the elementary part of our school. We will continue to combine the third and fourth grade classrooms through 2017 and separate them the following year in 2017-2018. Replacing LED lighting in classrooms. The three remaining classrooms: room 2, room 6,and room 7 will have their LED lighting completed over the summer months. All full-time faculty will be returning next year! We are excited that our entire full-time faculty will be returning for 2016-17. They have been a blessing to get to know and work alongside. New fifth grade teacher hired. We are pleased to announce the hire of Mrs. Irma Mora as our new fifth grade instructor. Mrs. Mora has twelve years of classroom experience and will also be overseeing our elementary and middle school music program. Spanish class will go online in 2016-17. In order to continue to provide a foreign language offering to our K-8 students we will be utilizing an online program for each of the grades in conjunction with our technology room. The National Beta Club honors CLS. Calvary Lutheran School has been recognized by this prestigious organization as a Beta School of Merit for its dedication to academic excellence and commitment in celebrating its students achievements. Calvary Lutheran has thirteen students in grades fourth through eighth grade who are currently members. School enrollment is on the rise. At present, 93 students are enrolled for the next school year. We are expecting a surge in enrollment numbers particularly in the preschool during the summer months. CLS will also be dividing our school into preschool, elementary (grades K-5) and middle school (grades 6-8). Summer help needed. Our primary goal is to scrape and clean the picnic lunch area as well as to repaint all of the tables. We will also be repairing lockers, removing and discarding outdated materials, and repainting the walls near the lockers and lunch areas as well as the outside walls from kindergarten to room 9. Please contact the school office if you can help in any of these areas. We will begin work the week of June 20th. I pray God's richest blessing on both you and yours over the next few months while looking forward to seeing you again in August! Serving God through education, Dr. Michael Hemme Chivalette Superintendent MHC:nls
