I wanted to touch base and share a quick update with each of you on what has been happening at CLS during the month of October. Just last week we completed our first quarter with and tomorrow marking our annual parent-teacher conferences. Beginning November 16 through the 17th, CLS will be hosting a WASC Accreditation team visit. This is a normal mid-term visit for all accredited schools within the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Our ongoing goal is to improve our school and its overall approach to providing our students with an excellent education.
We are also excited that through some recent donations earmarked for facilities to change out our older classroom lights for LED lights which are brighter and more cost effective. At present, all elementary classrooms kindergarten through fourth grade as well as our computer lab have new lighting. We will seek to replace the middle school classroom lighting early next summer or earlier when further donations are received.
We recently held a fire and a earthquake drill. If there is ever a disaster, you can rest assured our staff will be ready to protect our children at all costs. In case a disaster should ever occur, parents may pick up their children in the front of the school office which is on Via Magdalena. The gate between the church and school will be the only entrance in or out. If you are unable to reach your children, do not worry; we will stay with them, feed them, and minister to them until you or one of your family members are able to pick them up, no matter what time of the day or night.
Parent Participation Program (PPP) Hours. A few of our parents have already completed their required twenty (20) hours of PPP service. Most have not. Those on the tuition assistance program with additional hours beyond the required twenty are asked to contact the school secretary to help you in completing your service hours.
CLS has recently joined The National Beta Club. This is a prestigious and nationally recognized program for select students who meet the stringent requirements academically, socially, and in demonstrating leadership. CLS is now hosting a Jr. Beta Club for students in grades 4-8. More information will be forwarded to parents and students in the next few weeks.
A combined boys and girls intramural basketball program for grades 1-4 will be starting Saturday, November 21. We are calling our CLS league the "Biddy Basketball Program" featuring lower rims and smaller basketballs for their little hands. A sign up list will be forwarded next week. A $15.00 charge will be required to cover the cost of each player's jersey. Any parents wishing to help coach one of the teams should contact Mrs. Schibler in the school office.
I truly appreciate all of the help we receive but have noticed that most are the same families who are helping for each school activity or program. We need more help and support to lessen the strain on the few who have done an incredible job in showing their support for CLS. Please take the time and invest it in our shared ministry of reaching and equipping each child at Calvary.
This Sunday is Daylight Savings Time. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.
In His Grace,
Dr. Michael Hemme Chivalette
Superintendent
