| | Make Hand-Washing a Habit Kids who wash their hands at least four times a day have 24 percent fewer sick days from colds and flu, and 51 percent fewer sick days due to stomach illnesses. (American Public Health Association). Teach kids to scrub their whole hands - up to the wrists and under the fingernails - and to do it long enough to sing the ABCs or "Happy Birthday" all the way through. A timer works well, too.
|
Cold and Flu Season are here! If you feel your child is sick or might be sick, we ask you to please keep them at home.
If your child's temperature is 99.6 degrees or higher, it is considered a low-grade temperature. Please keep your child at home as whatever your child has is now considered contagious. A child must be FEVER FREE (NO fever), no diarrhea, and not vomiting, WITHOUT any medications (Acetaminophen/ Tylenol, Ibuprofen/Motrin) in their system for at least 24 hours before they can return to school.
If your child suddenly comes down with the following symptoms: fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, cough, fatigue, rash, nausea or vomiting - we encourage you to contact your local physician and discuss your child's symptoms. Again, a child must NOT have had a fever and/or not vomiting, without any medication in their system for at least 24 hours before they may be able to return to school. Do not forget to let your school secretary know that your child will not be in school. If you would like to pick up any homework after school, please let the secretary know at that time. |
STREP THROAT Strep throat is a common and contagious infection caused by Group A streptococcus bacteria. Strep throat may affect anyone, but it is especially common among children. Please watch your child(ren) for any symptoms.
What Are the Symptoms of Strep Throat? - Sore throat that comes on rapidly
- Pain and Difficulty swallowing
- Headaches
- Fever, sometimes greater than 102 degrees Fahrenheit (38.3 C)
- A raw, red appearance to the back of the throat
- White pus on tonsils
- Tender, high lymph nodes in neck
- Abdominal pain
- Rash
- Absence of a cough, stuffy nose, or other upper-respiratory symptoms
- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck and tonsils
It is easy to tell when you have a sore throat or a cold. It is harder to know when you have strep throat. Typically, sore throats are caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat usually does not occur with cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more cold symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection.
If you have any questions regarding your child's symptoms, please contact your local physician.
Please note: THE ABOVE IS ONLY A GUIDELINE. Please contact your local physician if you have any questions or concerns.

Reduce the Risk of Credit Card Fraud with Scrip
How often do you pay for anything with cash or checks anymore? Many people have started using credit and debit cards for all their shopping because they're quick and convenient, not to mention one of the only ways to shop online. But there's a downside to using credit cards: the more you swipe that card, the more places your information is stored, and credit card fraud is a bigger concern than ever. In the last few years, the number of data breaches has increased, compromising the accounts of over a billion shoppers. Many companies are working hard to increase their security and provide better protection for your data, but it's a slow process, and hackers are finding new ways to get around that protection just as quickly. What can you do to protect yourself? Well, if you're already a scrip shopper that's a step in the right direction! Shopping with gift cards doesn't leave you vulnerable the same way credit cards do, since they aren't connected to your bank account. Not only are you supporting Calvary Lutheran School when you shop with scrip, but you're also safeguarding your family against fraud. |
SCRIP - The easiest fundraiser we have! Gift cards are awesome to use for yourself as well as to give as birthday gifts, anniversary, teacher appreciation, and Thank You! Purchasing gifts cards through Calvary earns us points!
Great Lakes Scrip Center explains it as "fundraising while you shop". We sell many of the same gift cards you would purchase at retail outlets. Great Lakes Scrip has over 700 of the country's biggest brands: Safeway, Lucky's, Starbucks, Chevron, Arco, Amazon.com, Old Navy, Kohl's, Walmart, Applebee's, Chipotle, Wendy's, Home Depot, and so much more. Check out our "in house" listing as well as go to www.shopwithscrip.com and view everything available thru their retailer's list.
How it works: We place our orders on Monday mornings (9 a.m.) so that you will receive your cards by the weekend, usually Friday afternoon. NEW You may also shop and place your order online, reload cards, and get e-cards. To order online you must register and sign up for Press to pay at www.shopwithscrip.com Enrollment code: 9AF2LD9C9L86.
Benefits: NEW At Calvary Lutheran we offer scrip as a way to reduce your family's annual tuition. Currently, a commitment of $3,000.00 in Scrip purchases will give your family a $100.00 annual tuition discount. A commitment of $5,000 in Scrip purchases will give your family a $200.00 annual tuition discount. Our Scrip year is May 1 - April 30th. Yes, Scrip is available during the summer.
Should you not reach your commitment you will be charged 10% on the unpurchased balance.
Once all discounts are paid back to the tuition fund, the remaining monies will be used to support school activities.
Who can participate? Everyone!! All families at Calvary Lutheran, friends, extended family are encouraged to purchase Scrip throughout the year. Come into the office during normal school hours and see the church or school secretary, Sundays after service at the information booth too.
Can I still purchase gift cards in the office? You can still purchase your gift card(s) through the office. Cash and Checks are accepted.

"If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'" So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Please continue to keep our Pastor, Superintendent, teachers, students, parents and volunteers in your prayers throughout the school year. |
