CLS Safety Information for Parents

green ribbon

Dear CLS Families,

The tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut have left our hearts heavy for the families and community that were impacted.

When an event of this nature occurs, we reflect on the safety plans we have in place within our schools to ensure the safety of our children.  Our Administration believes that your child's safety is our top priority.  We are always mindful of safety, but I have asked that we maintain a heightened awareness of safety in our school.

In addition to our normal safety procedures, we will continue to have all exterior doors locked and all teachers will lock their classroom doors.  As is our current practice, any volunteer not under direct staff supervision in our school, will have up-to-date background checks.  You may be asked to show identification when participating in events or picking up a child.  While this may be inconvenient, we ask for your cooperation as we work together to maintain the safety of our children.

Calvary also has a lock-down procedure of which is annually reviewed and periodically practiced. In the event of an emergency, local authorities will be your first means of communication. Families will then be contacted in a timely manner.

Attached you will find resources to help school communities across the nation respond to the crisis and to help school children cope with the trauma.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, students, and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School as well as to the wider community of Newtown in this time of unspeakable grief.

Blessings,

Fred E. Brauer
