"CLEAN UP AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL"

Some of our teachers are planning on working Saturday, May 27, 2017, cleaning out their classroom.

What does this mean?  Teachers need your help boxing up books, personal items, lifting boxes, cleaning, and so much needs to be done before June 1st.  If you are able to help and/or you still need PPP hours, please contact the school secretary at (510) 278-2598, or speak to your student's teacher and she if they will need your help.

Thank you so much for continuing to support the CCS teachers.

"PROVERBS 3"
by Jim Bellig

Proverbs 3 really speaks to me about my need to keep God's Word continually on my heart, in my thoughts, and part of my daily life.  As I was spending time in chapter 3 of Proverbs, the following verses stuck out to me:

"Do not forget my teaching; but keep my commands in your heart." (Proverbs 3:1)
"...Bind them around your neck; write them on your heart." (Proverbs 3:3)
"In all your ways submit to Him..." (Proverbs 3:5)
"...Fear the Lord and shun evil. (Proverbs 3:7)
"Honor the Lord with your wealth..." (Proverbs 3:9)
"Do not despise the Lord's discipline..." (Proverbs 3:11)
"Don't let wisdom and understanding out of your sight..." (Proverbs 3:21)

These instructions remind me how important it is for us to spend daily time in God's Word, listen to what God is saying, and then applying what God says to our lives. "Writing it on my heart" is applying what I have heard from God to my life so that it makes a difference in how I live. Listen to God's wisdom and then do what it says!

Even if I do spend daily time in God's Word, but do not apply it to my daily life, then I am still living foolishly. The apostle James gives warning about this type of man:
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it-not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1:22-25

If I listen to wisdom and don't apply it to my life, I am no different and probably more calloused to God's voice than I was before I checked off my "Completed Devotions" box. I have not let God's Word transform me into someone more like Himself, which is the whole point!

My prayer before I read God's Word is "Lord, speak to me from your Word; give me something for this day."  During my time in God's Word I wait and listen for him to speak to me through his Scripture. Then I come back to that which the Lord brought into focus during my reading throughout that day and by the Lord's strength and grace make a difference in the way I act and react.

"Lord, write it on my heart so that it becomes a part of my life and make me more like You."
